The monument of K. Ushynsky
The monument of K. Ushynsky
Bohdanka Village (234 residents), Shostka Region, is situated on the left bank of Shostka River, three kilometers from its inflow into Desna. The Right-Bank migrants founded the village in the mid-17thc. The famous educator K. Ushynsky (1824-1871) spent here his early years. He was born in Novhorod-Siversky and went to gymnasium there. Then he graduated from the faculty of law of Moscow University and worked at the Yaroslavl law lyceum, Gatchina Institute for Orphans, Smolny Institute of Noble Maidens. He expounded his pedagogical ideas in classroom reader The Child's world (1861), Mother Tongue (1864), and treatise Man as a subject of education. Experience of pedagogical anthropology (1868-1869). In the 60s of the 20th c. the museum of K. Ushynsky was inaugurated in an ordinary rural house in Bohdanka. The monument to him was erected in 1968 (sculptor I. Ivchenko).
