Kyiyanytsia

The Kyiyanytsia palace
The Kyiyanytsia palace
Kyiyanytsia Village (694 residents), Sumy Region, is situated on the left bank of Oleshnia River. The sugar-refinery which belonged to the squires of Leszczinskis, was put into operation here in 1866. Then the oak forest was transformed into a park. The palace of sugar manufacturers was erected on the bank of the pond late in the 19th c. In the early period of Soviet power, Bolsheviks annihilated dozens of manors and palaces or took them to pieces to use later as building materials. However, the palace in Kyiyanytsia off at a distance somehow survived. Either due to the operational sugar-refinery of manor owners, or due to proper understanding of contemporaries, they soon found the way to use this pearl of civil architecture in Ukraine. The Kyiyanytsia palace looks surprisingly picturesque and romantic in the age-old park, especially from the far bank of the pond. Until the 90s of the past century, there existed soviet tourist center of "Kyiyanytsia". The palace and office accommodations gradually deteriorate; but even now, they look great with all this compositional perfection and beauty of external decoration. The Kyiyanytsia park (55.7 ha) feature over 70 types of trees and bushes including sycamores, ginkgo, silvery fir-trees, pine-trees, linden-trees, maples and, certainly, the prevailing oaks.
