Lemeshi. The Church of Three Holy Hierarchs | Lemeshi, Kozelets Region, (622 residents) is situated along the Kyiv—Cher-nihiv Highway. For a long time the village, known from 1709, belonged to the noble family of Galagans. Here K. Rozumovsky, the last Ukrainian Hetman, was born; all local memorials are connected with this family. Early in his hetmanate, in 1755, architect A. Kvasov built the Church of Three Holy Hierarchs. It stands on the hill on the outskirts of the village near the grave of H. Rozum, hetman's father. It is a popular one-dome concentric construction, typical of Ukrainian architects of the time; there are similar buildings in Hlukhiv, Corop etc. Not far away there is a small house with forms of Ukrainian style zemsrvo (1909-1910). The old-timers maintain that a descendant of the Rozumovskys, who lived abroad and visited his ancestral lands early in the 20th c, sponsored the construction of zemsrvo school. |
