Holy Trinity Catholic-Church
Holy Trinity Catholic-Church
Lishchyn Village (1,300 residents), Zhytomyr Region, is located on the slopes of Guyva River Valley. The records mentioned it in 1566; there are many landmarks of the early 19th c. They are situated on two highest hills of the left bank of Guyva cut by a deep ravine. The one-story classical building is typical of moderate jerkwater Ukrainian manor. It has been housing the local high school for many years already. The age-old lindens guard the rural Holy Trinity Catholic-Church (1805) beyond a ravine, on the brink of the steep slope of the river valley. The building was finished ten years after Russian empire took over these lands and Catholic Church lost its grip here. Therefore old-timers maintain that this Holy Trinity Catholic Church was used by Orthodox believers from the very start. It is an example of inter-confessional transformation of a church wide-spread in Ukraine from the 15th to the 20th c.
