Velyky Bobryk

The majestic Church of the Ascension
The majestic Church of the Ascension
Velyky Bobryk Village (1,500 residents), Krasnopil Region, is situated on the high right bank of Bobryk River. The Right-Bank migrants founded this settlement in 1676. The majestic Church of the Ascension and three-storied belltower was built [39] in the village center in 1808. The distinguishing feature of the classical church is its location. Traditionally churches (including the Orthodox ones) were erected on an eminence. However, the visual effect was seldom like that with the church in Velyky Bobryk. The moment you turn off the Sumy-Okhtyrka Highway it appears on the horizon. Then the Church of the Ascension is in site during all of 5-kilometer drive; however, when you go down the dammed river valley, you see it in full beauty. There is a park founded on the steep slope of the river back in 1815. Unfortunately, there are no records indicating whether it belonged to a manor or a church.
